Kate is a digital strategist specialising in Blockchain, and is considered one of the global thought leaders in Blockchain and Crypto. She is also an author of both fiction and non-fiction, and a black belt in Karate to boot!

As our interview unfolded, I was intrigued by the complexity of her professional career and delighted by the playful side of her imagination when we talked about SimCavalier, Finch, and a cat!

Yes, a cat, and we’ll come back to that in a minute.

Kate’s love for science fiction was born when she was six, while secretly reading ‘Doctor Who’ books under the desk. And when ‘Star Wars’ came out she was hooked! She even has a first edition paperback of ‘Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’ which she says is absolutely battered and covered with tea! A staple beverage of the Brits!

Kate lives in the district of Teesside, located on the North East of England, and is sandwiched within an hours drive to the north of York and the south of Newcastle. The region has a long history of iron and steel production, and is where all the major chemical companies are based.

‘We literally have acres of companies! We actually have an alarm that goes off for the whole town, if there’s a chemical leak.’

Oh my god, please tell me that doesn’t happen that often???

‘Very, very rare! We had one about six weeks ago, and the previous time that anything’s happened was about 15 years ago.’

My panic on Kate’s behalf subsided and we progressed with the interview.

Kate, you’re a speaker, trainer and business consultant, what has been your career path to date?

Oh it’s convoluted and bizarre! I did a degree in accounting, and hated every second of it! I then went off to America and worked for a software company for a year, came back and there was a job as a trainee accountant and I thought, “May as well!” and trained properly. As a result I actually enjoyed it, and worked for a number of companies including where I trained and then moved to others.

‘In the middle of all of that I started training in karate, got the chance to be the first female regional manager
